After completing his undergraduate medical train- ing in India, he attended Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in England for specialized post-graduate training in Radiation Oncology. Upon arrival in the United States, he spent another four years studying Radiation Oncology as a resident at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and served as Chief Resident there in his final year. Dr. Samer Garas is an interventional cardiologist at St. Vincent's HealthCare, part of Ascension Florida. Dr. Garas grew up in St. Louis, MO, attending Washington University in St. Louis for his undergraduate studies and the University of Missouri for medical school. He completed his fellowship at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Garas comes from a family of physicians, and he knew this was a family tradition he wanted to carry on. Dr. Garas is committed to providing patients with the best quality of care and the most advanced care in the region. Dr. Randall Wong is a retina specialist located in Fairfax, Va. Receiving his degree in English, he progressed to earn his Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license (in Ohio) in 1976 and later acquired non-resident licenses in Nevada, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas as well as a resident license in Florida Owen was also designated as a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) in 1993 by the Veterinary Prac- tice Managers Association of North America and earned recognition as a Fellow of the American College of Forensics Examiners Institute (FACFEI) in 2007. In addition, Owen earned designa- tions by the AICPA as Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) in 2010 and as a Global Management Accountant (CGMA) in 2013. Mark T. Gould, MD, special- izes in lower extremity sports orthopedics, focusing on the feet and ankles. He recently joined the Hughston Orthope- dics team, and brings over 14 years of practice experience to northeast Florida. He is a veteran of both the Army and Navy. For recreation, Dr. Gould is a former baseball coach and he and wife, Ellen, are dog rescue advocates. Dr. Sophia Sheikh is a board-certified EM physician with sub-board certification in medical toxicology. Dr. Sheikh is Assistant Medical Director of the Florida-US Virgin Islands Poison Information Center, located in Jacksonville, Fl, and serves on the UF Health Jacksonville's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Pain and Opioid Stew- ardship Taskforce. For the past eight years, she has served as co-investigator on the Pain Assessment and Management Initiative (PAMI): A Patient Safety Project. Along with her co-investigators, she has collaborated with national pain organizations and developed several clinical and patient safety tools and resources related to improving pain management. Patti Barkey COE, is chief executive officer for Bowden Eye & Associates, Dry Eye University Bowden Eye Services Management Orga- nization, Eye Surgery Center of North Florida and ASOA Board of Directors. He has served as Chief of Staff of Putnam Community Medical Center and has twice served on the Hospital's Board of Trustees. He is a founding member and past President of the Putnam First Cancer Fund, a 501 (c) (3) which provides educational and financial support to the underserved of Putnam County. Originally from India, Dr. Kuruvilla moved to the United States in Melissa C. Carter, M.A. Sr. Vice President of Education & Membership Florida Medical Association Melissa has held various positions during her 18-year tenure with the Florida Medical Association. Currently as Senior Vice President, she provides oversight for the organization's education and membership retention activities. She administers CME program development for the organization's ACCME-accredited CME program, and monitors the intra-state accreditation of 55 CME providers in Florida. In 2011, FMA achieved Accredita- tion with Commendation from the ACCME. She also serves as staff liaison to the FMA Council on Medical Education, Science and Public Health, as well as the Committee on CME & Accreditation. Melissa is an active member of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions and serves on the Alliance's Member- ship Committee. Melissa earned a Bachelor's degree from Rhodes Col- lege in Memphis, TN and a Master's degree from Florida State University. Christine Granfield, MD is a former partner with MBB Ra- diology of Jacksonville from 1993-2016, and served for over 20 years as the Medical Director of Breast Imaging for Baptist Health and the Hill Breast Center. Christine has been recognized as a "Health- care Hero" and "Woman of Influence" by the Jacksonville Business Journal. Since her retirement, Dr. Granfield has become keenly interested in the areas of functional medicine and nutrition as they apply to disease prevention and reversal. She is grateful for her supportive husband of 32 years, Gary, their two loving daughters, Tess and Paige, and for the continued fulfilling opportunities to serve others in retirement. Leigh Elizabeth Israel was born into the travel indus- try—her father founded Avondale Travel Bureau, once one of the nation's largest travel agencies. By 18 years of age, Leigh had extensively traveled and cruised most of the world.
